On this day in 356 BC – The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, one of the
Seven Wonders of the World, is destroyed by arson.


In 1925 - John T. Scopes is found guilty of teaching human evolution and fined $100.


– Malcolm Campbell becomes the first man to exceed 150 mph (241 km/h) on land,
driving the Sunbeam 350HP.


In 1961 - Gus Grissom piloting Liberty Bell 7 becomes the second American to go
into space (in a suborbital mission).


In 1969 - Neil Armstrong becomes the first person to walk on the Moon, followed 19
minutes later by "Buzz" Aldrin.


In 1987 - Guns 'N' Roses released "Appetite for Destruction"


In 2011 - The Space Shuttle program ends with the landing of Space Shuttle Atlantis
at Kennedy Space Center.
