On this day in 28 BC – A sunspot is observed by Han dynasty astronomers, one of the earliest dated sunspot observations in China.
The earliest record of sunspots is found in the Chinese I Ching, completed before 800 BC. The text describes that a dou and mei were observed in the sun, where both words refer to a small obscuration.
In 1962 – Marvel Comics publishes the first issue of The Incredible Hulk.

In 1975 – Sony introduces the Betamax videocassette recorder.

In 1980 - Al Di Meola releases "Splendido Hotel"
In 1982 - Duran Duran releases "Rio"
- Thomas Dolby releases "The Golden Age of Wireless"
In 1988 - Prince releases "Lovesexy"
In 1994 - Weezer releases their debut album, commonly referred to as "The Blue Album"
– Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as South Africa's first black president.
In 2013 – One World Trade Center becomes the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
