It's February 28th On this day in 1835 – Elias Lönnrot signed and dated the foreword to the first version of the Kalevala , the so-called Old Kalevala. In 1983 – The final episode of M*A*S*H airs, with almost 110 million viewers. Stories persist that the episode was seen by so many people that the New York City Sanitation/Public Works Department reported the plumbing systems broke down in some parts of the city from so many New Yorkers waiting until the end to use the toilet. These stories have all since been identified as part of an urban legend dating back to the days of the Amos and Andy radio program in the 1930s. In 1990 – Space Shuttle Atlantis is launched. It's February 27th On this day in 1812 – Lord Byron gives his first address as a member of the House of Lords, in defense of Luddite violence against Industrialism in his home county of Nottinghamshire. In 1964 – The Government of Italy asks for help to keep the Leaning Tower of Pisa from toppling over. In 1971 - Janis Joplin's album "Pearl" hits #1 in the US, where it stays for nine weeks. Joplin died of a heroin overdose three months before the album was released. In 1973 – The American Indian Movement occupies Wounded Knee in protest of the federal government. Rainy day again on a Thursday.I skipped going to the VMFA. I wasn't meeting anyone there today anyhow. I didn't get a whole lot done, but I did go to Burning Hair practice and accidentally dubbed over an important sample on the OP-1. I believe I found it backed up on the computer. Hopefully I can get everything back on before next practice. Dinner was a Chipotle burrito. Snacking on some Aldi trail mix now. Last night I watched a little bit of a movie called "The Algebra of Need" , which was apparently something William S. Burroughs had said (according to J.F. Martel in the book I was/am reading). In the film (set in Buffalo) a couple (I think they're on a date?) visit an art gallery showing the work of Jack Drummer, so I paused it and went down a rabbit hole for a bit.
